This past weekend, Robert Glasper kicked off the return of his annual Robtober residency at Blue Note Jazz Club. For all of October — and the first week of November — Glasper will perform 66-shows at the iconic New York City venue.
However, you will not see a lot of shows like his opening set. On Sunday evening, fans were treated to a surprise when Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock came out and introduced the jazz maestro. The two did a short set where Chris Rock joked about getting COVID-19 — apparently on the set of a civil rights movie he’s filming. (Maybe it’s David O’ Russell’s new movie?) Talib Kweli also made an appearance that night.
This isn’t the first time Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock surprised Glasper during a show. They both did the same move back in June.
Glasper’s residency is going on until November 7th and it looks impressive. Throughout the next couple of weeks, expect to see guest appearances from the likes of Common, Meshell Ndegeocello, PJ Morton, BJ The Chicago Kid, and more.
