Rasheed Chappell has been in the game for a lot longer than most Heads may realize. He is from the era of J-Love mixtapes that birthed Outdoorsmen members Action Bronson and Meyhem Lauren. However, when iconic producer Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez took him under wing, he evolved from simply a dope lyricist into a considered songmaker. His 2011 debut Future Before Nostalgia was fully produced and mixed by Kenny Dope, and showed what Chappell was truly capable of. Then, although he appeared on plenty of other peoples’ albums, he didn’t drop his sophomore until last September.
It was worth the wait as 2018’s First Brick not only showed Rasheed’s growth as an MC, but also spotlighted other dope rappers from his lane like Hus Kingpin, Recognize Ali, and Napoleon Da Legend. Not to mention he got assists from respected vets like D.I.T.C. member O.C. and DJ Scratch.
