Vallejo singer H.E.R. nominated for best album, record, song of the year Grammys

Vallejo-born and Bay Area-raised H.E.R. is experiencing déjà vu.

The 22-year-old R&B singer and guitarist, whose real name is Gabi Wilson, woke up on Wednesday morning to familiar news: She was again nominated for five Grammy Awards — the same number of nods as last year.

The 2020 nominations, however, are even more flattering. Like in 2019, she earned a spot in the best R&B song and best R&B performance categories, both for "Could've Been" with rapper Bryson Tiller, and the coveted album of the year for this year's "I Used to Know Her." But for 2020, she also rounded out her year with nominations in the other two major categories: song of the year and record of the year, both for "Hard Place."

Sparoh’s “Panama” Delivers a Powerful Message of Confidence and Creative Freedom

Sparoh is an Atlanta-based artist creating music at the crossroads of melodic trap, alternative pop, and punk-fueled rebellion. Equal parts vulnerable and unapologetic, her work explores identity, liberation, and the complexities of Black womanhood.Raised in the DMV on a foundation of jazz, funk, and blues, Sparoh was drawn early to artists who challenged convention and redefined what was possible.
