Questlove Says This Group Is The Most Underappreciated Hip-Hop Artist Of All Time

The drummer was asked to name the most underappreciated hip-hop artist of all time on a recent podcast appearance.

While promoting his upcoming show Hip-Hop: The Songs That Shook America, Questlove also took the time to talk about who he believed was the most underappreciated hip-hop artist of all time.

During an appearance on the podcast Fired Up With Brad Jenkins, Jenkins asked The Roots bandleader and drummer the question, to which Questlove responded with De La Soul, the trio made up of Posdnuos, Dave and Maseo.

“We have taken from the tree of De La Soul so many times and they have never gotten credit for it,” he said. “I’ll say that. Just as far as – I’ve watched them use samples that later been used and built empires. I’ve seen them do concepts. Everything that De La Soul has done, I’ve seen other people come in and do afterwards and it’s like, ‘Ah!’ So yeah, De La Soul.”

Jenkins chat with Quest can be listened to here.

Sparoh’s “Panama” Delivers a Powerful Message of Confidence and Creative Freedom

Sparoh is an Atlanta-based artist creating music at the crossroads of melodic trap, alternative pop, and punk-fueled rebellion. Equal parts vulnerable and unapologetic, her work explores identity, liberation, and the complexities of Black womanhood.Raised in the DMV on a foundation of jazz, funk, and blues, Sparoh was drawn early to artists who challenged convention and redefined what was possible. Influenced by trailblazers like Joyce Kennedy,…See More
