A day before the kick-off of the Super Bowl, The New York Times released a new profile on JAY-Z and Roc Nation, with parts discussing his deal with the NFL.
Speaking on telling the league no to their headlining performance, Hov says “Run This Town” was requested by the league for his performance, in hopes that he would bring along Kanye West and Rihanna to the big stage.
“Of course I would have, but I said, ‘No, you get me,'” Jay stated. “That is not how you go about it, telling someone that they’re going to do the halftime show contingent on who they bring. I said forget it. It was a principle thing.”
Elsewhere in the article, Hov says he is ok with backlash given to him for his NFL deal as long as it comes with pushing forward a cause.
“As long as real people are being hurt and marginalized and losing family members, then yes, I can take a couple rounds of negative press,” Jay-Z said.
He would also address Colin Kaepernick and agreeing the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback was done wrong.
