It’s easy to say that the new album from Hiatus Kaiyote is this writer’s most anticipated project of the month.
Their first album since 2015’s Choose Your Weapon, the band’s Mood Valiant will arrive on June 25. Following their singles “Get Sun” and “Red Room,” they offer up their latest — which, coincidentally, has been a song the group has performed on tours for years — “Chivalry Is Not Dead.”
“After we did Choose Your Weapon, we had to make radio edits of our songs, and all of our shit is like 6 or 7 minutes long! So ‘Chivalry’ was me f**king with the ‘hit record’ formula,” Nai Palm says. “I’m gonna write a song that’s 3:40 long, and it’s about sex, but I’m gonna make it f**king weird. Examples from the natural world that are f**king with the status quo.”
