Anderson .Paak and Bruno Mars went full retro for their Silk Sonic performance at this year’s Grammys. The pair performed their song “Leave the Door Open,” with the performance finding the two artists (as well as a few backup singers) wearing matching burgundy suits, all while ’70s lighting shined down on them.
.Paak and Bruno released the track last week after announcing they were working together as Silk Sonic. The pair’s collaboration came about when .Paak joined Mars on the European leg of the singer’s 24K Magic Tour in 2017, and the two started makiing music in the studio.
“It was like, ‘Well, want to come back tomorrow?'” Mars told Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in an interview. “And we kept coming up with music. It felt like why you fall in love with music in the first place. And jamming with your buddy… There’s no plan, just working out the parts and trying to excite each other… that’s why this wouldn’t happen if it didn’t make sense and it didn’t feel natural and organic. This was a series of events that led us to ‘Man, why don’t we just do it?'”
