Childish Gambino and Rihanna‘s Guava Island film is set to premiere during YouTube’s livestream of Coachella this weekend.
According to Billboard, ads for the forthcoming movie surfaced on Spotify last week and said that the film would premiere at some point on Saturday night on Coachella’s opening weekend (April 13). Gambino will be performing Friday prior to the film’s expected showing.
Guava Island also reportedly stars Letitia Wright and Nonso Anozie, and is directed by Hiro Murai. Murai has directed most of Gambino’s music videos, as well as episodes of Donald Glover’s critically-acclaimed TV series Atlanta.
Crack magazine noted that cinematographer Christian Sprenger, who has worked with Glover on Atlanta, listed Guava Island as a “visual album” on his resume. This has led some to speculate that the film is associated with Gambino’s last album before he retires the moniker.
