Diddy is no longer associated with Revolt TV, the culture and music-focused television network he founded in 2013. He is completely done and as TMZ claimed from their report, the network is under new ownership.

Now get this: sources in the know about the purported deal say the embattled mogul sold off all his shares to a mystery buyer for a sum that has not been disclosed. Now the word is the company in itself “remains Black-owned,” which is supposed to be aligned with, as TMZ puts it, upholding “its original connection and dedication to furthering the culture.”

It’s still hazy as to what Revolt was let go for regarding the sale, but one thing is clear: the new owner is keeping a low profile for now, and for good reason. There’s a lot of heat around the Sean Combs, with Monday’s raids by the feds, so now may not be the best time to announce a business deal of that magnitude for one of Diddy’s brands. Now, sources say that the owners or owners share a passion for Black culture, which is a broad statement, but they intend to introduce themselves formally in the coming weeks.

Francesca Royster remembers waking up the morning after the Super Bowl to numerous excited text messages from friends: Beyoncé had just dropped two new country-tinged singles, and her forthcoming album—the second act in her purported Renaissance trilogy—would be a celebration of country music.

“It’s awakened such a discussion,” says Royster, an English professor at DePaul University and author of the 2022 book Black Country Music. “Students, friends, old friends from college have been calling, wanting to talk about this topic that, for a long time, has felt like a closet obsession.”

While many contemporary music listeners’ first experience with Black country music came with Lil’ Nas X’s 2018 “country-trap” novelty hit “Old Town Road,” Black folks have been writing, performing, and recording country music since it first became popular in the 1920s. In fact, country music wouldn’t exist as it does today without the contributions and innovations of Black musicians.

One of San Francisco's most popular events is officially going up in smoke this year.

The city announced Tuesday that its annual 420 event at Hippie Hill in April which brings thousands of people to Golden Gate Park has been canceled.

"We wanted to support this amazing event that celebrates plant medicine," said Alex Aquino, the event's organizer.

He says the cancellation is because of two main factors.

One is a lack of sponsor money.

The role of producer in Hip-Hop has changed a few times since the first rap records arrived at the end of the 1970s. In that era bands were attempting to re create the break beats that MCs and DJs were using before rap recordings. The people credited with production on those records were either the record label owners, or in some cases the musicians who arranged the songs. In the vein of what producers did in other genres of music, the rap producer also suggested additional musicians and/or producers, arranged and helped the artists to deliver the best vocal performance for the recordings in question. Larry Smith was a musician and multi-instrumentalist before rap records existed. He played on some of the very first rap records and was later responsible for recordings that caused a paradigm shift in the sound and direction of rap as a recorded medium.

Take a moment now to breathe — in through your nose, out though your mouth. It's surprising how much a little break can do for you. But what changes when the leader of your mental retreat is the guy known for turning up in the club?

Rapper and producer Lil Jon has been focused a lot on meditation recently — so much so that he decided to put out an album that would feature his own mantras instead of music. The king of crunk has been bringing the energy for decades on tracks like DJ Snake's "Turn Down For What," LMFAO's "Shots" and "Get Low" by his own Eastside Boyz. But like he told NPR's Ayesha Rascoe, "You gotta turn down sometimes" — which is just what he does on his new album of guided meditations, titled Total Meditation.

Lil Jon spoke with Rascoe on Weekend Edition Sunday about maturing in music, focusing on health and finding a balance between the extreme ends of the volume knob. Hear their conversation at the audio link, and read an edited transcript below.
