A gospel play with live vocal harmony numbers by Purchased
In a crime-filled area of Oakland, a woman struggles to raise five children with the help of her 100-year-old grandmother. Momma Edna raised Katie Mae when her parents were caught up in drugs and alcohol. Now, with three of her own kids living the street life, and a husband who is a closet crack smoker, she depends on God and Momma Edna to help hold her family together.
Written, produced and directed by Lonnetta Ducote
The reality of the Solid Rock stage play is not just Oakland’s reality. It’s a reflection of what’s happening in communities all over the country. It is a slap in the face about the impact of drugs on our youth – not only the direct effects, but also the “for the love of money” lifestyle, the cycle of homicide, and the defects suffered by drug users’ offspring. Drugs have become the spiritual, emotional, social and psychological exterminator of dreams. The writer hopes that this play will be a literary candle to help the community find its way out of deeper darkness.
All ages welcome - $10 adults, $5 kids 12 and under - PRICES ARE SUGGESTED DONATIONS ONLY. NO ONE WILL BE TURNED AWAY.
