Event Description

A series of images investigating the extensive variety of Bay Area car culture by Oakland artist Safety First. With lively brushstrokes and wry sense of humor, the artist will detourn the vehicle in 2D, just as has been the tradition with custom cars since their genesis in East Oakland. Safety First is a Bay Area-based image creator whose visual style is influenced by fine art, folk art, street art, hip hop, a bit of graphic design and possibly childhood cartoons. His work ranges from “jazz tattoos” to large public and private murals, to clothing, collages, and zines. His work can be found on instagram under @artofsafetyfirst.
