Event Description

Three years ago this month DJ Gordo Cabeza embarked on a journey every Monday at Madrone Art Bar in SF  where he was well armed with a strong sense of nostalgia for Motown music, a powerful desire to create a weekly event for friends and family to commune/dance, and tons of soulful Motown tunes. MOM SF (Motown On Mondays) was born. Gordo was soon joined by his local San Francisco DJ friends - Phleck, Matteo & Timoteo Gigante. After three years of diligence and persistent creative additions people were waking up to what is now quite possibly the most talked about weekly and monthly events in SF. MOM SF now includes a roster of very talented vocalists, producers (check out their MOM Remix Album Vol 1 here: www.soundcloud.com/m-o-m-1/tracks), DJs, and a massive following of dance eager fans filling various venues here in the Bay Area, Los Angeles, Honolulu and this summer New York.

Little did Gordo know what this humble Monday weekly event would evolve into ... MOM SF, MOM LA, MOM Honolulu, MOM NYC. With some of the best DJs from around the globe in regular attendance these days MOM SF is becoming legendary.

Expect to hear many live performances of Motown classics along with a heavy set of soulful originals from Myron & E (Timmion, Stones Throw) for the first half of the evening followed by an all out Motown inspired dance party from the MOM DJs. If you've witnessed a MOM SF dance floor before you'll surely know to look sharp and get to steppin'. If you're new to the family ... check the links below for a preview of how they light up the disco!

LIVE

Myron & E (Timmion, Stones Throw)

Myron & E are singers from differing musical backgrounds. The two met working in the tour outfit of Bay Area indie-hip hop legends Blackalicious. The senior member of the duo, Myron Glasper, got his start in music in the early 90s working as a back-up singer in Los Angeles. The mysterious “E's” is actually the DJ known as E Da Boss, whose music has been released on labels including San Francisco’s Om Records.

Myron & E’s music might seem to be a radical departure for two hip hop-reared Californians, but the duo slide into their new-roles like tenured soul stars. The Soul Investigators backing tracks – lush, string-swept affairs that revel in analog tape hiss and the overall warmth of live musicianship – came together under the tight guidance of producer and recording engineer Didier Selin.

The Hitsville Soul Sisters (MOM SF)

The Hitsville Soul Sisters were conjured up from the MOM SF dance floor in the Spring of 2010. These ladies have golden voices, snappy dance moves and a penchant for classy 60's style.
