On Friday October 15th 2010, Mighty proudly presents the return of arguably the most accomplished American DJ, Z-Trip. The evening will feature a rare exclusive live DJ performance by Z-Trip with support from DJ Shortkut (Triple Threat DJs/ Invisibl Skratch Piklz / Beat Junkies) and Carey Kopp (CakeMIX SF/ MIGHTY). Doors are at 9pm and advance discount presales will be available through eventbrite.com.
Considered to be one of the best live performance DJs in history by fans, peers, and critics alike, many call Z-Trip the godfather of mash-ups, as he is one of the founders of the genre. Fans voted him America’s #1 DJ in DJ Times highly prestigious readers poll, and his worldwide sold out shows continue to break and set attendance records while drawing critical praise. Despite being pitted against 2 of the biggest draws at Coachella 2010, Z-Trip packed the Sahara Tent to a crowd of 15,000 revelers, and his recent performance at Detroit Electronic Music Festival for a crowd of 10,000 was heralded as the crown jewel of the weekend’s DJ sets.
In addition to worldwide sold out shows, Z-Trip’s career boasts impressive producer/artist milestones, further bolstering his already awe-inspiring curriculum vitae. In 2009 “Victory Lap” (his homage to Obama) sold over 500,000 copies and was endorsed by Wired, Urb, BPM, and XLR8R magazines to name just a handful. In 2009 he appeared as an in-game character in DJ Hero, for which he also supplied several original remixes and songs. His major label debut “Shifting Gears” received a 4 star review by Rolling Stone – its highest honor in 2005.
At “Z-Trip’s Revolution,” his Friday night residency at the Palms in Las Vegas, he demonstrates his genre and mind-bending skills with surprise guests including Too Short, De La Soul, Rev Run, and Three 6 Mafia. In a rare and special intimate Friday departure, his live DJ performance at Mighty will showcase his deck prowess on 4 turntables, drum loop machines, EFX units, and live original edits and remixes. Clubgoers can expect not only to hear a 2 hour live and unique musical experience, but see first hand the genius behind this giant on the Mighty screens and visuals display.
Fresh off a 6 week Asian tour, DJ SHORTKUT, handpicked by Z-Trip to play this show, has been making his rounds for some time now. No other DJ in the world will ever be a member of the three most innovative & influential DJ crews to exist. As a member of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Beat Junkies and Triple Threat DJs, Shortkut’s contributions to the DJ world greatly assisted in building the culture into what it is today. His years of musical experience and unparalleled presence in the national and international circuits exemplify his passion and dedication to a culture he helped create.
Support also comes from DJ PLATURN and DJ ENKI from the renowned OAKLAND FADERS holding down the SIDE LOUNGE ALL NIGHT!
Carey Kopp will be your opening DJ for the night, starting things off right with classic hip hop, downtempo and some.
Discount tickets may be purchased at www.mighty119.com and at eventbrite.com. Mighty’s doors open at 9pm and presale ticket purchase and early arrival are highly encouraged. For additional show information, call 415.626.7001.
