SUMMARY:MIGHTY presents MADLIB
DESCRIPTION:Friday, January 29th, MIGHTY is proud to present MADLIB (S
tones Throw Records). The night will feature an exclusive DJ set from
Madlib himself with Support from DJ SHORTKUT (Triple Threat DJs / Invi
sibl Skratch Piklz / Beat Junkies) & Carey Kopp (CakeMIX SF). Doors ar
e at 10PM. Advance presales will be available through eventbrite.com.\
n\nDescribing himself as a “DJ first, producer second, and rapper th
ird”, Madlib is a Grammy nominated California based artist. He’s b
een dubbed one of the most prolific and critically acclaimed hip-hop p
roducers of the last decade. His collaborations include a slew of hip
hop artists such as The Alkaholiks, Mos Def, De La Soul, Talib Kweli,
MF DOOM, Erykah Badu and the late J-Dilla to name a few.\n\nMadlib sta
rted making music in the early 90’s with his group Lootpack, based o
ut of his hometown of Oxnard, California. Through the Lootpack, Madlib
caught the attention of Peanut Butter Wolf, which secured him a recor
d deal with Stones Throw Records. Madlib’s first release, Quasimoto
 – The Unseen, was met with critical acclaim and named by Spin Magazi
ne as one of the top albums of 2000. Since his first solo venture, Mad
lib has released several follow up albums that range with influences f
rom hip hop, jazz, Indian to dub.\n\nMaybe most well known for his joi
nt work, Madlib has released several critically acclaimed collaboratio
ns. The Champion Sound album saw him teamed up with legendary producer
J-Dilla under the pseudonym Jaylib. But perhaps his most successful c
ollaboration was with MF DOOM, releasing the album Madvillainy under t
he moniker Madvillian. The 2004 Madvillainy album was highly anticipat
ed, and well received, topping many critics’ year-end lists.\n\nDJ S
HORTKUT has been making his rounds for some time now. No other DJ in t
he world will ever be a member of the three most innovative & influent
ial DJ crews to exist. As a member of the Invisibl Skratch Piklz, Beat
Junkies and Triple Threat DJs, Shortkut’s contributions to the DJ w
orld greatly assisted in building the culture into what it is today. H
is years of musical experience and unparalleled presence in the nation
al and international circuits exemplify his passion and dedication to
a culture he helped create.\n\nSettled in San Francisco for three year
s now, Carey Kopp blames his upbringing outside of Detroit for his mus
ical obsession. Deeply influenced by the classic Motown sound and fell
ow Michigan hip hoppers, you can catch him spinning Aretha Franklin to
Temptations soul to golden era hip-hop.\n\nFor more information visit
