Andre "Mac Dre" Hicks is known in many respects as a Bay Area legend and pioneer for a entire generation of Hip hop's most notable artists. But what many people outside of the Bay Area are not aware of is that Mac Dre is a ever growing bridge between multiple cultures and socio-economic backgrounds. Rooted in inclusion and free-spiritedness, the culture that Mac Dre inspired over a decade ago is still being celebrated today.

Following his death, friends, fans, and fellow artists began to gather for his birthday (July 5th) to celebrate the life of Mac Dre; all the while carrying on the torch of his unifying spirit. For more than a decade now, Dre Day had grown alongside Mac Dre's legacy, transforming it into more than just a celebration of Mac Dre himself. Today It has become a party for every average joe, misfit, counter-culturalist, and free thinker to come out and enjoy edgy underground music.

Prentice Grant: From Vauxhall to Legacy — The Rise of an Independent Hip-Hop Force

The first time Prentice Grant realized music could change his life, he was just a kid in Vauxhall, New Jersey, staring at the TV. Two kids not much older than him were on the screen — backwards clothes, fearless energy, commanding the world. It was Kris Kross performing “Jump.”And in that moment, something clicked. It wasn’t just the beat.It wasn’t just the crowd. It was the power. From that day forward, Prentice didn’t just listen to hip-hop — he became it.He sharpened his pen studying legends.…See More
