July's Writers With Drinks will be your only chance EVER to hear amazing literature, hippo alternate history, and Norse sagas all in one place.

When: Saturday, July 8, 2017 from 7:30 PM to 9:30 PM, doors open 6:30 PM
Who: Jade Chang, Tom Pyun, Sarah Gailey, Earle McCartney, Jason Bayani, and Jackson Crawford!
How much: $5 to $20, all proceeds benefit the Center for Sex & Culture

About the readers/performers:

Jade Chang is the author of The Wangs vs. the World, which was a New York Times editors' choice. She has worked for publications like the BBC, Metropolis, Glamour, and The Los Angeles Times Magazine. She was recently an editor at Goodreads. Jade is the recipient of a Sundance Arts Journalist fellowship, the AIGA/Winterhouse Design Criticism Award, and a Squaw Valley Writers Workshop scholarship.

Tom Pyun is an essayist and novelist living in San Francisco, CA. He recently completed a residency Vermont Studio Center, the Tin House Winter Workshop, a mentorship with Gemini Ink. and a fellowship with VONA/Voices. His work has appeared in the Rumpus, Blue Mesa Review, Eleven Eleven, and Reed and has been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and a Best of the Net award. An excerpt of his novel-in-progress about international gay surrogacy/adoption was recently published in Joyland Magazine.

Sarah Gailey is the author of the novella River of Teeth, an alternate history in which the United States imported hippopotamuses. She also has a novel forthcoming from Tor Books in Spring 2019. A Hugo and Campbell finalist, Gailey's nonfiction has appeared in Mashable and the Boston Globe, and she's a regular contributor to Tor.com and Barnes & Noble. Her most recent fiction credits include Mothership Zeta, Fireside Fiction and the Speculative Bookshop Anthology.

Jackson Crawford's translation of the Poetic Edda, the medieval Icelandic manuscript that is the source of most of what we know about the Norse gods and heroes, was published in 2015. And in September 2017, it will be followed by his translation of two of the most important Norse sagas, The Saga of the Volsungs and The Saga of Ragnar Lothbrok. Crawford also regularly posts short informative videos on topics in Norse language and myth for the interested public at Youtube.com/JacksonCrawford.

Jason Bayani is the author of Amulet from Write Bloody Press. He's a Kundiman fellow, and works as the Artistic Director for Kearny Street Workshop. Jason performs regularly around the country and recently debuted his solo show, "Locus of Control" in 2016.

Earle McCartney's stories have appeared in Zyzzyva, The Common, Meridian, Big Fiction, and elsewhere. He was awarded the Joseph Henry Jackson Award by the San Francisco Foundation in 2013.
