 \nInfo & tickets: http://www.trueskool.com\n\nDETAILS:\nThe “golden
era” of hip hop was the 1980’s into the 1990’s where the music w
as experimental and eclectic, and the lyrics dealt with socially conse
quential themes of Afro-centricity and Political Militancy. The “gol
den era” was about freedom of expression and individuality, in disti
nct contrast to the marketing strategies and cookie-cutter rappers in
today’s hip hop. Influenced by earlier forms of music such as R and
B, Jazz and The Blues, Hip Hop was appreciated for its lyrical content
, its musical depth and its stark differentiation from other musical g
enres of the day. This era is known for the flourishing of different r
egional styles and a freeing up of the manner in which rap music was w
ritten, composed and performed these regional styles contributed to mu
ch tension and rivalry as well. This friction was exploited by record
companies to boost interest and sales. It is this rivalry along with o
ther factors that led to a decline and eventual end of the Golden Age.
Some of Hip Hop golden era artists were Public Enemy, Run DMC, LL Coo
l J, Kool Moe Dee, Big Daddy Kane, Kool G Rap, A Tribe Called Quest, E
ric B & Rakim, Public Enemy, MC Lyte, KRS-ONE, NWA, Cypress Hill, Snoo
p Doggy Dogg, Tupac Shakur, Notorious B.I.G, Geto Boys, Big Punisher.\
