 e breadth of international urban bass music. Jungle ragga, dub, dubste
 p, grime, hip hop, kwaito, baile funk, samba, rai, bhangra, cumbia, an
 d skewed electronic beats all inform his selections and production wor
 k. His live performances are a hybrid mix of DJ set and live P.A., whe
 re he mixes diverse sounds culled from pirate cassettes bought on the 
 street in various parts of the world, MP3s from the internet, obscure 
 vinyl found in underground shops, original beats, unreleased remixes a
 nd exclusive tracks. Divergent sources are combined and mixed live in 
 a dubwise fashion with a DJ's feel for the dance floor and the hip hop
  mentality of creating by re-contextualizing. Projected video and phot
 o images from his travels and recording sessions bring an extra visual
  dimension to the music. Maga Bo has played guerilla gigs in an indust
 rial complex in São Paulo, a boat in the North Sea, and an improvised
  pirate-powered sound system on the streets of Rio de Janeiro during C
 arnival. Some of his more visible appearances include Club Transmedial
 e in Berlin, an official showcase at WOMEX 2009, 2010 Funkhaus Europa 
 showcase at RUHR in Germany, The Sydney Festival in Australia, Fabric 
 in London, Turntables on the Hudson in New York City, The Chicago Worl
 d Music Festival, Pop Montreal in Canada, and the Mundial Festival in 
 Holland. His musical collaborators are also spread out throughout the 
 world: Xuman of Pee Froiss in Dakar, Teba and Max Normal of Cape Town,
  Mr. Catra and Marcelo Yuka of Rio de Janeiro, Kalaf of Buraka Som Sis
 tema from Lisbon, Moroccan hip hop masters Bigg and K-Libre, Barcelona
 -based luddite laptopist Filastine, His recent work includes remixes a
 nd production for Ninja Tune, Cumbancha, Urban World, Gold Dust/K7, Af
 rican Dope Records, as well as collaborations with Mulatu Astatke in A
 ddis Ababa for the film Lalumbe, a sound track production with Bollywo
 od singers Shilpa Rao and Pankaj Awasthi, and touring as electronics D
 J/beat controller in Issa Bagayogo's band. Traveling often and widely,
  he stays in one place for weeks at a time, connecting and collaborati
 ng with local musicians and vocalists. His methods are simple and effe
 ctive: armed with a laptop, and a microphone, he can turn any hotel ro
 om into his recording studio. Electronic acquaintances and friends of 
 friends in person become musical conspirators, teachers and friends. O
 ver time, a deep musical landscape is being created that is the collec
 tive imprint of Maga Bo’s community, world music with a truly global
  reach. Vocals recorded in one-room studios with a microphone taped to
  a refrigerator (in lieu of a stand) get released on the internet and 
 over local sound systems the same night. And by the next day, the trac
 k has been sampled again by guys on the other side of the world and ma
 shed up with whatever local concoctions they've got going on. Maga Bo
