Event Description

THURSDAY APR 19
Big Bang: Party After Dark

Explore the tastes, sounds, and creatures of the night at the California Academy of Sciences during Big Bang: Party After Dark, a special evening to support Academy research and education programs. Soul/pop band-on-the-rise Fitz and the Tantrums will headline the night, presented by Another Planet Entertainment. Named a "Band to Watch" by Rolling Stone, and a "You Oughta Know" band by VH1, Fitz and the Tantrums puts a modern spin on Motown with their eclectic sound and powerhouse vocals.

Local favorite J Boogie will get the party rolling with his one-of-a-kind blend of beats, genres and rhythms from around the world before Fitz and the Tantrums goes on. Ren the Vinyl Archaeologist will jump in later with his vast arsenal of vinyl weapons, ranging from hip hop and soul to electro, house, even acid jazz.

Dessert, late-night snacks, and inspired libations at open bars throughout the museum will keep the party going strong as guests dance the night away amongst friends, 38,000 live animals, and the Billion Jelly Bloom, a "polyp-morphic" performance art piece of undulating, luminous 15-foot-tall jellyfish floating through the museum.
