The track comes from the pair’s forthcoming collaborative album, Black Love & War, which they’re releasing under their G&D moniker.
“That’s where I’m from.” The words provide the hook and foundation for Georgia Anne Muldrow and Dudley Perkins‘ new song, “Where I’m From.” Taken from the pair’s forthcoming new album, Black Love & War, under their G&D moniker, it’s one of a few tracks from the new project that isn’t produced by Muldrow herself. (The beat was made by Mike & Keys.)
The beat’s laidback groove kicks off the music video, as Perkins discovers a dusty box filled with some sort of glowing, blue liquid in a closet presumably at his and Muldrow’s home. The two then take a late ride into the desert, pour out some of the liquid, and continue their journey, California turning from night to day. It feels ritualistic — a tribute to places that are integral to who Muldrow and Perkins are, giving thanks before starting their day.
