SUMMARY:SambaDa And Afrofunk Experience Play Zodiac's
DESCRIPTION:SambaDá SambaDá musically unites the Americas, drawing
from percussion-based styles of South and Central American samba and s
alsa, and blending them with the funk!BiographyWhile Brazilian natives
Papiba Godinho and Dandha da Hora bring their profound knowledge and
respect for the roots of afro-brazilian song and dance, the entire ban
 d has developed a type of samba-reggae-funk with a universal appeal. S
ambaDá musically unites the Americas, drawing from percussion based s
tyles of South and Central America, and blends it with that good old f
unk and reggae back beat so familiar to crowds of North America. For ov
er ten years, SambaDá has been mixing contemporary sounds with the ro
ots of brazilian culture. Papiba is a master of Capoeira, an Afro Braz
ilian martial art form created by Brazilian slaves, which draws on mus
ic and acrobatic movements. Dandha was born into the rich Afro Brazili
an traditions of Salvador, Bahia and the Carnival Group Ile Aiye, and
started her dancing career at age 6. Ile Aiye has been in the forefron
t of Civil Rights in Brazil, promoting equality and justice, and is wi
dely recognized as the first Afro Brazilian BLOCO or group to perform
in Brazil's notorious Carnival celebrations. The other members of Samba
Dá come from a wide range of styles, generations and sensibilities. W
hat unites this band from such diverse backgrounds is a magic that can
be felt by both the band and the audience. SambaDá brings joy to eac
h performance, and keeps their fans asking for more!!Afrofunk Experien
ceThe Afrofunk Experience – An ambrosial mix of musical interpretati
ons influenced by the African diaspora, created in a collective and or
ganic manner. The Afrofunk Experience – HOMEGROWN AFROBEAT, AFROROC
K, REGGAE, AND ORIGINAL BAY AREA FUNK. The Afrofunk Experience – wh
o with Sila Mutungi comprised the award-winning group Sila and the Afr
ofunk Experience from it's inception until 2010, providing songs and g
rooves for the entity that was dubbed \"The Bay Area's Dance Kings\",
and who, with SAFE, were winners of the NAACP Image Award's Outstandin
g World Music Album for \"Black President\" and winners of The SF Week
ly Music Award's Best International Act. In 2009 the Afrofunk Experie
nce parted ways with Sila. The Afrofunk Experience – Putting the FU
NK back in it!The Afrofunk Experience – AFE for short. The Musicians:
Guitarist/Singer David James (Spearhead, The Coup, Beth Custer) brings
his sinewy style to counter the funk-metal stylings of lead guitarist
Ken House (H.P. Riot). The precise funk-rock drumming of Paul Olipant
(Afrolicious, Will Magid Trio) with Wendell Rand's (Afrolicious, Trac
orum, Youssoupha Sidibe) muscular dance grooves keep the band tight, w
hile saxophonist David Boyce (Broun Fellinis, The Supplicants) and tro
mbonist Alan Williams (Manicato, Katdelic) wail, their horns producing
a sound that encompasses outward-bound jazz, classic reggae, afrobeat
and R&B. Percussionist B. Lee thickens and adds flavor to the mix, an
d on top of all this, recent addition Sandy House adds her sultry voic
e and powerful stage presence.Note: There once was a man named Mike Pi
tre ... he was the coolest cat, with the craziest degree of swing, in
his trumpet playing, in his singing and in his living. Mike passed awa
y just weeks after he recorded his parts for the AFE album. He would c
uss the band out if they were to quit. So they roll on. And they miss
him.Afrofunk Experience – Never Be\n\nFor more information visit htt
