SUMMARY:Mexika, The Sounds of Ancient Mexico and Quinteto Latino (Clas
 sical Wind Ensemble)
DESCRIPTION:$12 adv. $15 dr.\nThis is the first time that indigenous m
usicians have written for and performed their own music on their own i
nstruments and written music for a classical ensemble. Music composed
by Mexika.\n MEXIKA was formed by Martin Espino and Christopher Garcia
. Espino and Garcia first crossed paths in 2005 when they shared the s
tage for the first time at a world music festival in Los Angeles, Cali
fornia. Martin had been researching, cultivating and performing his lo
ve for the indigenous music of Mexico while Christopher had been doing
the same with the music of North and South India performing concerts
throughout the world. After many conversations about music and the mus
icians they had independently worked with and finding common cultural
and musical ground, they joined forces in 2005 to become MEXIKA. The
ir love of research combined with a desire to learn as much as possibl
e about indigenous music, has taken them to many universities and stag
es as both performers and lecturers. In order to continue to educate t
hemselves and perpetuate the ART of indigenous music, Espino and Garci
a continue to collaborate with musicians, actors, filmmakers, spoken w
ord artists, graphic artists, and indigenous dancers from around the w
orld. \n \nMexika has performed the music of composers Carlos Chavez
, Silvestre Revueltas, Joseph Julian Gonzalez in their ancient Mexican
instruments with THE BAKERSFIELD SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA and THE LOS ANGEL
ES PHILHARMONIC.\n \nREVIEWS\n“If one ever wondered what music and
dance was before the Spaniards stepped foot in the Americas, one needs
look no farther than MEXIKA”.   LOS ANGELES TIMES“MEXIKA’S rem
embered ancient rhythms, sounds and dancing will be thought of as the
highlight of the Seattle art scene this year.“ \n\nFor more informa
