e.com\n\nMIGHTY presents J. Rocc of Stones Throw Records and Legendary
Beat Junkies Crew, with support from DJ Apollo (Triple Threat | Invis
ibl Skratch Piklz) & Carey Kopp (MIGHTY, CakeMIX). Hosted by none othe
r than Fran Boogie.\n\nOne of the original turntablists, J. Rocc found
ed the Beat Junkies in 1992 with Melo-D and Rhettmatic, but has done j
ust as much on his own as in a group setting. He began DJing in the mi
d-'80s with a California group named PSK. Soon after forming, the Beat
Junkies became a seminal force in the rise of instrumental hip-hop, i
ncluding core member Babu plus future stars Shortkut and D-Styles.\n\n
In addition to numerous mixtapes and his own production for Stones Thr
ow releases, J. Rocc has been the DJ for Madlib's live shows since the
early 2000's, was the 3rd member of Jaylib (Madlib & J Dilla) during
the group's live events, and collaborated with Madlib on Beat Konducta
Vol. 5-6: A Tribute to J Dilla.\n\nOne of the founders and original m
embers of the Invisbl Skratch Piklz (ISP), Apollo helped introduce a r
evolutionary art form to the music world. The Piklz created the turnta
ble band: an artform in which turntables become the instruments that f
orm all of the various sounds. The original Invisibl Skratch Piklz squ
ad comprised of Apollo, Mix Master Mike and Qbert (also known as the R
ock Steady DJs), and each artist possessed the skills to play various
musical roles. These included the role of the drummer, bass player, an
d lead scratch or turntablist. The combined talent of his team earned
the group the titles of Disco Mixing Club (DMC) United States and Worl
d Champions (1992), awards which are the highest honors a DJ group can
earn. The original ISP won them on both the national and internationa
l levels.\n\nIn 1999, Apollo joined up with two other legendary DJs, S
hortkut (Beat Junkies) and Vinroc (5th Platoon), to form the super DJ
group Triple Threat. The only collective comprised of all turntable ch
ampions from major turntable crews, Triple Threat strives to master as
many musical styles as possible as they produce tracks, compose music
on the ones and twos, and rock a party with three times the power of
your average turntable legend. Triple Threat has expanded into a music
label and events promotions company as well.\n\nCarey Kopp blames his
upbringing outside of Detroit for his musical obsession. Deeply influ
enced by the classic Motown sound and fellow Michigan hip hoppers, you
can catch him spinning classic soul & funk to golden era hip-hop. You
can catch him at his monthly \"CakeMIX\" every second Thursdays of th
e month at WISH in San Francisco.\n\nhttp://www.stonesthrow.com/jrocc\
