DESCRIPTION:Afrobeat No Go Die\nStart Time:\nFriday, June 18, 2010 at
 9:00pm\nEnd Time:\nSaturday, June 19, 2010 at 2:00am\nLocation:\nMadro
 ne Art Bar\nStreet:\n500 Divisadero Street\nDescription\n\nThe music o
riginated by Fela Anikulapo Kuti lives forever. Created by Fela in the
late ‘60s as a mix of traditional Yoruban folk music with European
and American influences, among them jazz and funk, Afrobeat is dance m
usic with a powerful message of social, cultural, and spiritual libera
tion. The genre also encompasses variations on the Afrobeat theme, fro
m the tribal funk of West Africa to the jazzy melodies of the Ethiopiq
ues series.\n\nToday, over a decade after its founder’s death, Afrob
eat is more popular than ever. There’s now a Broadway musical honori
ng Fela’s life, and all over the world, Afrobeat bands like Antibala
s, Albino, and Aphrodesia are making new incursions into the realm of
deeply rhythmic, horn-enhanced grooves, funky baselines, and searing g
uitar licks, adding greatly to the canon of works developed since Fela
’s time.\n\nJoin San Francisco’s resident Afrobeat expert, Liberia
n-born DJ Jeremiah, as he presents a new monthly party at Madrone sole
ly dedicated to playing Afrobeat both new and old – and nothing but
Afrobeat. Titled “Afrobeat No Go Die,” the night promises to be he
avier, funkier, and more vibrant than anything San Francisco has ever
seen before. Alongside Jeremiah will be respected world beat (AKA Mr.
Afrobeat) who’s also a huge Afrobeat fan and record collector. When
these two Afrobeat disciples dig into their deep crates, juju happens.
\n\n“Afrobeat No Go Die”\nBeautiful people! At the next Afrobeat N
o Go Die on June 18th we will have two very special guests in the hous
