SUMMARY:\"An Evening In Havana\" Daymé Arocena, DJ Leydis & DJ Cecil
DESCRIPTION: \nSKIN, La Rumba & Brownswood Records Present:\n“An Ev
 ening In Havana”\nDaymé Arocena\nDJ Cecil & Leydis\nSunday, April 3
rd 2016\n \nSinger, composer, arranger, choir director and band leade
r, Daymé Arocena at 22 years, is a skilful, charismatic presence in C
uban music. Her diverse musical talents are taking her quickly into br
oader territories. She sings the chants and song repertoires but also,
absorbs music of any kind, particularly jazz and Cuban neo-soul.\n\nT
he “daughter of two waters”, Yemaya (the mistress of salt waters)
and Ochun (of freshwater), Daymé is a dedicated practioner of the Afr
o-Cuban religion, Santeria. Always clothed in white, Daymé consults Y
emaya and Ochun for all decisions in her life. This way of life echoes
throughout her material, as she often chants in Yoruba while fusing s
panish and english lyricism.\n\nHeavily influenced by a musical upbrin
ging; old family records and cd’s, neighborhood rumberas, school cho
ir and early classical training, Daymé found her voice as her primary
instrument at the tender age of 4. By 16, this soulful Cuban songstre
ss was dueting with jazz great Winton Marsalis and earning esteemed re
cognition from Cuba’s Minister of Culture.  At 22, Daymé is an int
ernationally touring recording artist on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswoo
d Records. In partnership with Havana Cultura, a global platform dedic
ated to promoting contemporary Cuban creativity and showcasing the wor
k of artists across a spectrum of disciplines, Brownswood Recordings r
eleased Daymé’s first album, “Nueva Era” in June of 2015. Met w
ith much fanfare and adoration, “Nueva Era” weaves between traditi
onal Afro-Cuban rhythms and velvety jazz-funk. The Spring of 2016 mark
 s her debut west coast tour.\n \nFeaturing:\nDaymé Arocena\n \nSupp
